Funding and management assistance from NewSchools Venture Fund will fuel efforts to create exceptional special education tools for PreK-12
We are proud to announce that our company, Enuma, has been selected as a member of the 2017 Ignite cohort at NewSchools Venture Fund.
NewSchools Ignite makes grants to support entrepreneurs who fill market gaps where innovation in educational technology is lagging. As one of 15 ed tech companies awarded funding through the NewSchools Ignite Special Education Challenge, Enuma will take part in expanding innovative ed tech products to help millions of students across the country who receive special education services achieve their most ambitious dreams. In addition to the funding, NewSchools will provide management assistance and create a community of practice.
Since 2012, Enuma has been building accessible applications to help children learn independently. Enuma’s flagship app, Todo Math, was built inclusively for struggling learners but quickly became recognized as a global leader in early math education. Enuma’s dedication to the special education community also prompted the creation of apps that provide social stories and visual schedules for children with autism.
This grant award will make it possible for Enuma to continue to develop and improve these apps, such as Kid in Story and Children with Autism: Visual Schedule, which are both designed to enhance the daily lives of children with diverse learning needs.
“Empowering children with special needs is at the heart of Enuma’s mission,” said Sooinn Lee, Co-Founder and CEO of Enuma. “The challenges they face are great, but the market is hard to explore for small teams. We are grateful to NewSchools Ignite for sponsoring a cohort who will work with focus to enhance the quality of special education. We look forward to starting the program and to meeting all of the cohort members who will work to create the ed tech tools this audience truly needs.”
“While it may sound obvious that students with disabilities need additional support, few ed tech tools exist to support this diverse group of students,” said Tonika Cheek Clayton, Managing Partner at NewSchools Venture Fund. “We believe ed tech tools have the potential to address many critical needs in special education. That’s why NewSchools Ignite is proud to invest in Enuma to develop engaging tools to reimagine special education learning.”
We design accessible games and applications that help all children learn independently. Our name Enuma comes from the word enumerate, or to name one by one, which underscores our commitment to every child’s individual success. Our headquarters is in Berkeley, with offices in Seoul and Beijing.
